Saturday and the Kent Vets Championships at a venue I have never been to before , Dartford Central park.Had no idea what to expect but having been through Dartford itself on a number of occasions and noting it to be in need of ongoing TLC I did not have high hopes. The park turned out to be an absolute gem smack bang in the middle of town with a few acres of beautifully manicured and obviously well maintained fields , a nice little bandstand area and the jewel in the crown ( for runners ) what looked like a brand new all weather running track and alongside it a great little clubhouse/cafe – home to Dartford Harriers AC ( lucky devils ). Fantastic sunny and dry day.Very cold in the shade but summer like out under the open. Ground conditions very dry and the 2.5 lap route was all on short flat terrain grass. Not the most classic of XC conditions but in the mix there were a few 15 metrish severe gradients to give a little bit of flavour to the race. Felt like an XC sprint but very enjoyable. Hopefully same venue next year ?
