Latest in the series of Inter Club Relays at Samphire Hoe Country Park near Dover last week and definitely the best so far. The “summer “weather at last relented and we had a glorious sunny evening with virtually no wind in a fantastic setting underneath the cliffs and alongside the sea. For those not in the know Samphire Hoe is an “artificial” spit of land ( now a nature reserve ) about 3 miles from the centre of Dover which was created from the spoils of the Channel Tunnel excavation. It has sections of promenade and a mixture of trail loops and these form the basis of the approx 2.5 mile relay legs. There are also regular Samphire Hoe 5K races during the summer.
Well worth a visit be it for a training run, a walk or a picnic . It has its own little tea kiosk and toilet facilities on site. You can even for a small fee do a spot of angling from the promenade wall.
